What is Rudrabhishek Pooja ?

Lord Shiva has many names and Rudra is one of them. The Rudra manifestation of Shiva is fierce and aggressive and that of a destroyer. Rudrabhishek means a ritual of performing holy bath of the shivling by offering sacred mixture of liquids like milk, gangajal, honey, curd, chandan, sugercane juice, belpatra, aromatic oils, dhatura, akand and flowers. This is accompanied by chanting of mantras and hymns. Positive vibrations emanate in the area where this pooja is performed


Rudrabhishek removes all negative energies form the house and brings blessing of Lord Shiva in all aspects of life including washing away of sins, liberations form karmas and spiritual growth


What is Rudrabhishek Pooja

Rudrabhishek Ingredients required for the pooja

Water mixed with gangajal and /or gulabjal

Un-boiled cow milk

Sugarcane juice

Panchamrit

Achman Pot with Kusha grass for sprinkling

Dhoop

Incense sticks

Camphor

Ghee lamp

Sandal paste (Chandan)

Aromatic oils

Unbroken rice grains (Akshat)

Offerings - Sweets, Clothes, Flowers, Fruits

Belpatra

Dhatura

Paan

Betelnut

Bel fruit

Coconut

Haldi

Kumkum

Tulsi leaves

Coconut water

Initial Pooja before starting Rudrabhishek

Below Rudrabhishek procedure needs to be followed with exact steps to get maximum benefits of the Pooja


Place shivling so that yoni faces north and you face west face of shivling and look towards east. You need to sit on an asana of wool / kusha


Smear ash on forehead in three horizontal stripes (tripundra) . The three stripes represent:

Pure knowledge

Purity

Penance


Wear Rudrakasha, The devotee should wear Rudraksha Mala while worshipping, it aids to absorb powerful vibrations that are generated during the pooja and the mantra chanting. This can positively transform our thought process and and help us to be in sync with the divine. Rudraksha's high vibrations balance chakras helping one elevate to higher consciousness


Sprinkle water over all items of Pooja while chanting the below Mantra

Om Apavitrah Pavitro Va Sarva Vastan Gatapi Va

Yeh Smaret Pundari Kaksham Sa Bahya Bhyantarah Shuchi

Meaning: May all things unholy become holy, may all lower tendencies depart, just as soon as we transcend may within and without be purified


Light ghee lamp and remember your Guru, Ganesh, Kul Devta and Parents

Om Gurubhyo Namah

Om Ganeshaya Namah

Om Kul Devatabhyo Namah

Om Ishta Devatabhyo Namah

Om Mata Pitribhyam Namah

Meaning: I bow to Guru, I bow to Ganesha, I bow to family deity, I bow to personal deity, I bow to my parents


Perform Achman by placing water on the right hand with a spoon and sipping after each of these 3 mantras

Om Keshavaya Namah

Om Narayana Namaha

Om Madhavaya Namah


Then place some water on the right hand, pour on the ground Infront of you and chant below mantra

Om Govindaya Namaha


Do 3 short rounds of pranayama breaths and chant below mantra

Om Pranavasya Parabrahma Rishihi Paramatma Devata

Daivi Gayatri Chandaha

Pranayamae Viniyogaha


Rudrabhishek Pooja

Bath the shivling with water and then offer abhishek by pouring below liquids one by one. Keep chanting Om namah shivay throughout

Water mixed with gangajal and gulabjal

Milk (unboiled)

Fruit juice or sugar cane juice

Panchamrit


Clean the shivling and put it over a pedestal. Now chant the sadyojaat mantra

Om Sadyojaatam Prapadyaami Sadyojataajva Namo Namaha

Bhave Bhavenaati Bhave Bhavasvamaam Bhavodbhavaya Namaha


Make a tripunda on the western face of the shivling using sandal paste and chant Vamdev Mantra

Om Vamdevaya Namah, Jyeshthaay Namah, Shreshthay Namah, Rudraaya Namah, Kalaay Namah, Kala Vikarannaay Namah, Bal Vikaranaay Namah, Balaay Namah, Pramathanaay Namah, Sarva Bhoot Damanaay Namah, Manomanaay Nama


Offer dhoop and incense and chant below mantra

Om Aghorebhyo Ghorebhyo Ghor Ghor Tarebhayaha

Sarvebhya Sarva Sharvvebhyo Namaste Astu Rudra Roopebhyaha


Offer flowers and chant below mantra

Om Tatpurushaaya Vidmahe Mahadevaay Dheemahi, Tanno Rudraha Prachodayaat


Now chant Eeshaan Mantra one by one slowly

Om Eeshaanah Sarvavidysanam Eeshwar Sarvabhootaanaam

Brahmandipati Brahmanaadhipati Brahma Shivome Astu Sadaa Shivom

Avahanam Samarpayami Sri Shiva Maha Devaya Charana Kamalebhyo Namaha

Asanam Samarpayami Sri Shiva Maha Devaya Charana Kamalebhyo Namaha

Vastram Samarpayami Sri Shiva Maha Devaya Charana Kamalebhyo Namaha

Chandanam Samarpayami Sri Shiva Maha Devaya Charana Kamalebhyo Namaha

Burn camphor and chant below mantra

Karpura Shivam Karuna Vataram Samsara Saram Bhujagendraharam

Sada Vasantam Hridaya Ravinde Bhavam Bhavani Sahitam Namami


Now chant gayatri mantra 3 times

Om Bhur Bhuvah Swaha

Om Tat Savitur Varenyum Bhargo Devasya Dhimahi Dhiyo Yonaha Prachodayat


Now chant Surya mantra 3 times

Om Bhu Om Bhuvaha Om Swaha Om Maha Om Janaha Om Tapaha Om Satyam


Repeat and touch right eye, left eye and forehead after chanting below mantra each time

Om Apo Jyothi Raso Amtritam

Brahma Bhu Bhuvaha Swarom


Chant the Mahamrityunjaya mantra 108 times with Rudraksha mala.

Om Haum Joom Sah ,Om Bhur Bhuvaha Swaha

Om Triambakam Yajamahey, Sungandhim Pushti Vardanam

Urvar Ukamiva Bandhanan, Mrityor Muksheeya Mamritat

Om Swaha Bhuvaha Bhu Om Sah Joom Haum Om


Bow to the shivling and then chant this last prayer

Om Purnamada purnamidam purnath purnamudyachite

Purnasya purnamadaya purna mevaya shishyate

Om Shanti Shanti Shanti


What is the best time of the year to perform Rudrabhishek ?

This pooja can be performed on the eve of Maha Shivratri, Monday of Shravan, monthly shivratri days, pradosham days and Mondays' of all year long. However performing rudrabhishek in pradosham kaal is said to be most beneficial
